Replacing the fabric roof in a car

The fabric roof inside the car called headliner. It is a thin coating of material which is secured on a piece of cardboard along the entire interior roof of the vehicle. The ceiling cladding provides an attractive cover for the inside of the roof, and a slight cushion in case passengers collide their heads. Over time, the glue that holds the roof in place is weakened, which may cause the coating falls and hangs. Replace the headliner is a simple process but sometimes complicated.

Instructions

  1. Eliminates cutting the outer edges of the liner with a screwdriver. Depending on the model of car, it may have a plastic cover lever simply exposes making screws. No need to remove all the trim, just enough to comfortably take off the roof section to be re-positioned.
  2. Remove the fabric section that is giving up to an area which is still firmly stuck in place
  3. Examine the cardboard that is attached to the ceiling. If traces of glue or foam present in the cardboard, use a brush to remove them. If the foam does not come easily, use sandpaper to fine-grained sand smooth.
  4. Clean the surface of the cardboard with a clean cloth to remove any sanding residue.
  5. Vacuum the inside of the vehicle to remove the dried glue and foam are removed from the board.
  6. Spray the cardboard with a thin, thin layer of adhesive spray.
  7. Pull the loose flap of cloth and begins to push up on the cardboard to secure the adhesive. Use a ruler or other object with a flat and straight to smooth the fabric as you go, eliminating wrinkles and air bubbles edge. You can also smooth the fabric with the palm of your hand, but do not use your hands, then leave small slits in the ceiling.
  8. Allow the adhesive to dry for 30 minutes to about an hour and then relocates the cut on the edges
